Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- Attorney General Darrell McGraw is asking the courts to help some West Virginia families facing foreclosure.

McGraw's office filed a lawsuit Tuesday that seeks to stop foreclosures on loans made by Countrywide Financial Corp., among others.

He also is asking a Putnam County Judge to ban certain lending practices and to stop Countrywide from enforcing delinquency judgments.

Though the state enjoys one of the lowest foreclosure rates in the country, McGraw says homeowners who are struggling need help keeping a roof over their heads.

Most of the state's foreclosures in May, the latest month for available statistics, were primarily along U.S. 60 from Huntington to White Sulphur Springs, and in Harrison, Jefferson, Preston and Wood counties.
