Because of his courageous actions during the standoff with Jason Berecz, back in April, the Ohio Attorney General's Office has awarded Sergeant Scott Parks the Distinguished Medal of Valor.
Officials with the Washington County Sheriff's Department say Sergeant Parks deserved this award for the way he dealt with the standoff, for his conduct, and for his actions afterward.
Sergeant Parks was shot in the eye during the standoff, he then drove himself to meet an EMS squad nearby.
Parks was then transported by helicopter to Ohio State University's trauma center.
Sheriff Larry Mincks says he is proud of Sergeant Parks and this award shows how committed he is to his community.
