Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- Exit polling across West Virginia suggests that while many voters were enthused about their party's candidate, others simply chose what they saw as the lesser of two evils.

While a majority of voters say the economy was the most important issue to them, they appeared evenly split on which candidate could handle those problems better.

About a third of voters say they want a candidate who shares their values, and those people seem to side overwhelmingly with McCcain.

Sixty-year-old Fairmont Building Contractor John Stewart says his vote came down to morality. He likes McCain's views on abortion and gay marriage.

Another third of those polled say it's important the next President be able to create change, and those voters are appearing to align strongly with Obama.

Independent voters, who registered in greater numbers than Democrats or Republicans combined, were more likely to back McCain.
