Gun enthusiasts say an Obama administration is helping gun sales because many are concerned about tough new gun laws.

The Associated Press reports that even though there isn't data available this week, store owners are reporting record gun sales.
.
Gun enthusiasts around the country and locally say there is a concern that Obama's administration and a Congress controlled by the Democrats will bring new gun laws.

In October when it looked like Obama may win, the FBI says background checks for gun purchases went up by more than 100,000 compared to last October.

The co-owner of the Southeastern Trading Post in Waterford says he's been selling guns for a few years and this year his sales have doubled from his previous best year.

He doesn't know if it's because of the election or a change in location but he does say even some wholesale retailers are selling out.

"I called my wholesaler a little bit ago today (Saturday) to order some. I had a customer call and wanted to order a bulk amount of ammo and they said sorry they're sold out. So they have no more of the assault rifles and no more of the 223 ammunition," says Ted Offenberger, co-owner of the Southeastern Trading Post.

He says it's assault rifles along with hand guns and high capacity magazines that are going fast.

He still has some assault rifles left but he doesn't expect them to stay in stock as these are ones customers say they fear could be banned.

In Parkersburg the owner of Carl's Pawn Shop says gun sales are up there but mainly because it's hunting season. Carl's Pawn Shop doesn't sell assault rifles.
