Triple AAA reports that since 2002 the number of Americans planning to travel at least 50 miles from home during the holidays have dropped this year.
Gas prices are lower than they were a year ago but experts predict with the recession in the minds of many, that people are staying closer to home this year.
Josh Phillips and his family stopped at the Williamstown Welcome Center for a break from their six hour drive back home to Webster Springs West Virginia.
Phillips thinks that the reason people aren't traveling so much this year is because a lot of people are out of jobs right now.
An estimated 65.3 million people are expected to drive or fly more than 50 miles that is two percent fewer than those who traveled last year.
Matt Sweeney and his family are traveling all the way from Ohio to Knoxville Tennessee for the first time for the holidays, "Usually folks come to us, so its our first time going to them."
The Welcome Center in Williamstown as reported an influx of travelers in the last few days.
