Wood County Schools are taking steps to keep your children safer while on the bus.

The county is testing out new GPS tracking systems for school buses.

Right now, three buses are equipped with the technology on a trial base.

Officials can just look at a computer screen to see exactly where those buses are at any time.

"For homeland security issues we can track the bus, find out exactly where it is even if it left the county. We also can use it for routing. We can check and see where the bus is at, what stop it's at what time they are making the stop and actually how fast the bus is traveling," Wood County Schools Transportation Director says.

The devices cost one thousand dollars each.
Officials will review the system at the end of the year, but they say they hope to eventually buy them for all county school buses.
