A panel given the task of providing the Environmental Protection Agency and DuPont with information on C8 is holding two days of hearings in Parkersburg.

The Peer Consultation Panel heard and presented details of a preliminary report on the chemical DuPont Washington Works uses to make Teflon.

The study determines that the main source of PFOA, or C8, is the Washington Works plant rather than the Ohio River or air emissions.

"We want to do the right thing, and we think the company wants to do the right thing," says Dr. Mitchell Small, a member of the panel. "But you want to do it in an effective, efficient way, that uses your resources properly and advance the science so that you learn the most."

The report deals with human exposure, rather than the effects of C8.

The effects are being determined by a separate science panel which is to issue its latest findings later this week.
