The economy has had an effect on many business across the country, but some local second hand stores are thriving among their competition.
Books and Art, a local used book store in Marietta, has something that is keeping customers coming back.
"Some used stores seem to always have the same thing, but this one (Books and Art) is always different when you come. They always seem to have new stuff. Which we come here pretty regularly so it's pretty cool to always have something new to look at, "said regular shopper Nathan Hayes.
The wide selection of quality books at a discount price is competing well against its competitors.
"I have noticed with new books that there getting a little pricey it's almost always better to wait and see if you could get it a month down the road at a used book stores, "said Hayes.
Marianne Monaghan and her husband have owned Books and Art for five years now and the recent fall in the economy has not hurt their sales. Last month was the best April to date.
"It's not like your typical used book store. Often you find books stacked on the floor and they're dirty. Our books are clean and well organized. We do special orders, we are happy to order new books or used whatever you need. We can find it for you. We know our books, "said Monaghan.
A few blocks down on Front Street another second hand store is increasing their sales despite the recession.
Angie Siegfried, is the owner of the consignment shop, Change Of A' Dress and she is planning to expand her business in the next few months.
"I have a lot more customers coming in,"said Siefried.
Siegfried said the reason customers keep shopping at her store is because of the high-end clothing items at 30 percent off of what the garment would cost at retail prices.
"I'm very selective about what I have. I've learned that from the get go to get the best stuff in and that's why the customers keep coming back, "said Siefried.
A motto two second hand stores on Front Street seem to share.
