On the Fourth of July weekend many people spend their holiday vacation in more of a rustic setting by enjoying the outdoors with camping.

Reports show that RV rentals are up 25 percent over last years Fourth of July. Camp host Darlene Cunningham with Mountwood RV Park said they are noticing a change too.

"Last year the price of gasoline...and this year the economy has kept a lot of people close to home, " said Cunningham.

Cunningham said that at Mountwood more people have been interested in even seasonal camping.

She believes more people are getting back to nature.
"A lot of people never have gone camping before and are finding what a good time it is, " said Cunningham.

RV vacations are 27-61 percent less expensive than other vacations and campers said they have noticed, and that's why they are staying closer to home.

"Because it's a little too expensive to take off and drive, I would rather stay close to home," said Mountwood camper Blossom Broadwater.

The recreation vehicle rental association predicts summer rentals to be 11-percent higher than they were last year.
