Kenova, W.Va. (AP) -- The National Transportation Safety Board has upped the death toll in a plane crash Sunday to two.

NTSB Spokesman Peter Knudson confirmed the deaths in an e-mail.

Earlier, the Federal Aviation Administration had said just the pilot had been killed when the single-engine Columbia Aircraft went down about 4 miles south of Tri-State Airport about 1 P.M.

Because of the death and the destruction of the plane, FAA spokesman Jim Peters said the NTSB is taking charge of the investigation.

FAA records say the plane was owned by a man from Richland, Mich.

A telephone message left for the registered owner was not immediately returned.

The crash is the second fatal accident near Tri-State this year. In January, six people were killed when a twin-engine Piper PA-34 crashed after hitting power lines.
