Representatives from the US Environmental Protection Agency will be in Marietta Tuesday night to talk about a ground-breaking health study.

The EPA is teaming up with the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry to study effects of exposure to manganese in adults.

This is the first study of this kind in the country.

Scientists will test 100 adults in Marietta and 100 adults in Mount Vernon, OH and compare the results.

"There's not been that many studies done on the health impacts of manganese, especially outside of workplace exposure. This study is exciting because it is looking at two different communities--one with the manganese, one without to determine if there is any discernible difference," said Dr. Eric Fitch, Dir. of Environmental Sciences, Marietta College.

A public meeting will be held this Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 PM at Marietta College in Thomas Hall room 124.
