Attending an Historic Event

You know I'm glad that MJ's funeral has gotten some publicity in the mid Ohio valley... He was by far the GREATEST entertainer to ever live and will be sadly missed...The people that think that he actually did those things to those little boys make me sick, think about it if he did that he wouldn't have been able to keep custody of his own children. I grew up listening to his music and i didn't realize how much his death affected me until he died so i completely understand where the ppl that cared are coming from. Michael was terrorized when he was alive and its sad to say that he will be in his death.... RIP Michael Jackson you will be forever missed!!!!!
This guy was no more important than you or me.He was born and he died like everyone else will and has. He did not bring anything into this world and he never took anything with him when he left. Just another mortal human being. Nothing special about him. I would not have wasted my time.
Don't just chalk it up to some awful tag of "celebrity." I'm sure you go to concerts, watch tv, watch movies, etc. Giving up anonymity is a huge price to pay. But I agree - he was weird, sadly never happy with himself and probably addicted to drugs. I'm not pushing aside that he could've molested children. If he did - that's horrendous. But the fact remains - he influenced a lot of the entertainers everyone listens to today. "a song, a dance, grabbing his crotch" really oversimplifies it. If you want to honor REAL heroes DO something to honor them! Host a benefit, gather local entertainment for an event to recognize each local serviceman who has lost their life in this ongoing war. Make it happen. Actions speak louder than words.
Heather when is the last time WTAP did a story on a person who went to the funeral of a war hero? My point was that for the last 15 years he's had no new music and done nothing particularly marvelous and all of hollywood, the media, and the entertainment world in general laughed and made fun of "whacko jacko" but all of the sudden he's the most beloved man of all time. It's just weird. I don't get the whole celebrity fascination.
I for one, am very tired of the MJ circus. The man was weird, never happy with himself and a drug addict. We have made the celebrities, celebrities. Without our money buying their music and attending their concerts, they wouldn't have the lavish life styles they have. I agree with Tim - lets honor our real heros.
WTAP--who REALLY cares that a friend of a friend went to the Memorial Service!? BIG DEAL! I agree with Fred, the best thing I heard that was said at the memorial (no I didn't watch it!) said was "The king of Pop will bow to the King of Kings"!!
Michael Jackson raped little boys, lots of them. It's disgusting how some people can overlook this fact so easily. What were his accomplishments? A song, a dance, grabbing his crotch? Big deal.
Servicemen and celebrity are two completely separate things. And unfortunately it takes a 9/11 or war for servicemen to be recognized in a big way - but it does happen. I have so many memories of my childhood that include Michael Jackson's music from grade school to prom and into college. I didn't mean I'd let go of the memories - I meant I was saying goodbye to an entertainment icon and that nostalgic time. And I firmly believe that when someone dies you look at their entire life - not just the past 10-15 years when he was considered bizarre and everything else. He was a major influence on entertainment - few people ever accomplish what he did professionally. The rest is up to speculation. Many great, talented people had tragic lives - Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Mozart - that doesn't mean their work is invalid or shouldn't be appreciated. And I never said he was my idol or hero. A short news story is hardly the full perspective. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it though.
I find it sad that this woman compared being at the memorial to saying goodbye to her childhood. MJ was huge when I was a kid and I thought he was cool at first but I certainly didn't say goodbye to my childhood because he died. It's so sad to see how much people idolize celebrities. This man was a troubled tortured soul, possible child molestor, drug addict, etc. and yet people memorialized him like he was the Dahli lama. As others have said, there are servicemen and police and firefighters who die everyday and no one cares. It's really sad when you think about what our society values. Another thought... MJ was the laughing stock of the media who pegged him as a molestor and weirdo for years and all of the sudden he dies and he was the greatest man whoever walked the face of the earth. I don't get it.

So! What! big deal MJ he wasn't a hero by no means never will be. He was an entertainer that's it. What about the men women serving in our armed force today this very minute. Their the real hero's It would be great to see the media to show or pay tribute to those who have fallen for this country. Not to the holly wood who think their all that when they aren't. The Jackson family should pay for that big time funeral not the public.
Enough of the has been. Now let his fans pay for the deal since family is too tight.
i really going to miss his music i had posters all over my bed room of the jackson 5 when i was youing, i had most his music when i was growing up . i use to get up early on sat morning to watch the jackson 5 cartoon. it was great.
