Some local volunteer firefighters, who risk their lives to save the lives of others, are now getting some federal help.
Congressman Alan Mollohan announced the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department is receiving a grant worth almost $67,000 dollars.
The grant was awarded from the Department of Homeland Security, so earning it was no easy task.
The Mineral Wells application was entered into a very competitive and nation-wide pool.
"Every department in Wood County applied for the grant," says Chief Jay Parsons. "And, we're talking hundreds of thousands across the country. Most fire departments apply for this grant. It's just one of those things you apply for on the chance you may just get it."
Chief Parsons says they'll use the money to buy new specialized rescue equipment.
The Mineral Wells VFD serves four districts and is always looking for new volunteers.
Give them a call if you're interested. (304)489-2340
