DuPont Washington Works is investing money into several environmental projects in Wood County.
DuPont Washington Works Safety Health and Environmental Manager Bill Boyle said the company is working with the West Virginia DEP on the renewal of its waste water discharge permit.
As part of the renewal, Boyle said about half a million dollars in DuPont's fees will be go into environmental projects in Wood County.
"Our main concern is safety, health, and environment for all of our employees and also the societies in which we reside as a corporate employer," said Boyle.
A DuPont Washington Works spokesperson said $25,000 will fund an engineering study on sewer issues in Boaz, $50,000 will go towards sewer upgrades at Mountwood Park and up to $75,000 will be used as a contingency fund for sewer emergency repairs in the county.
Funding from DuPont Washington Works is also helping the solid waste authority host a hazardous household waste day for residents to safely get rid of items on Saturday October 31 at the Erickson All-Sports Facility.
Residents can bring oils, fluids, anti-freeze, unknown chemicals, and paints. According to a press release, no household trash will be accepted at the event.
The press release states that farm operators in Wood County are encouraged to attend.
Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and algaecides will also be accepted.
