The House to Home shelter and The Salvation Army in Parkersburg are noticing an increase of people needing assistance.

37-year-old Mark Frazier of Wetzel County has been homeless now for almost a week and it hasn't been easy. "The reason is because of the economy."

Frazier says that he couldn't afford his utilities bills so he and his family of three had to travel to Parkersburg because of the shelters that are available.

Kim Wilson, a board member for the Parkersburg Area Coalition for the Homeless, says she is seeing an increase of 70 people day in the House to Home Shelter on 8th Street.

Wilson says the increase has put a strain on the supplies, and the shelter is in need of winter clothing.

The Salvation Army Parkersburg also say they have seen an increase in people needing a place to stay.

Parkersburg shelters only let people stay for a limited about of time.
150 people are estimated to be homeless in Parkersburg.
