Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- A West Virginia program that allows hunters to help feed the hungry is asking for a little divine intervention.

The state Division of Natural Resources is asking roughly 3,000 churches across the state to donate money on sunday to the Hunters Helping the Hungry program.

The program allows hunters to donate deer to certified processors so the meat can be given to soup kitchens, food pantries, senior centers, churches and shelters across the state.

Program coordinator Jerry Westfall says the program relies on monetary donations for processing the carcasses and distributing the meat, since it can't legally use money from hunting licenses for those purposes.
