A major internet search engine lists Parkersburg's Hotel Blennerhassett as one of the 13 most haunted hotels in North America.
The Blennerhassett comes in at number ten on the list released by bing.com.
Manager Cecil Childress cites the hotel's age as among the reasons for its reputation as being inhabited by ghosts and other spirits.
And, he adds, the hotel's employees...past and present...have their own spooky stories to tell.
"Certainly, with the age of the building, and being a historic property, having a great deal of local history involved, certainly you're going to get some great stories out of that."
A long-time employee agrees.
"I used to do my audit here on third shift," Housekeeping Manager Tammy Pickens says, "and I had my paperwork in three different piles, walked away to shut the computer down, and when I came back, they were all in one pile."
The hotel is one of the regular stops on the "Haunted Parkersburg" tours Susan Sheppard hosts and guides each fall.
