Sheriff: Nelsonville Fire Chief Commits Suicide

The fire chief of Nelsonville has died after apparently committing suicide this weekend.

The fire chief of Nelsonville has died after apparently committing suicide this weekend.

Athens County Sheriff Patrick Kelly said Fire Chief Timothy Carr died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday.

Sheriff Kelly said firefighters found Carr with the gunshot wound at the fire station Friday evening.

Sheriff Kelly said the .380-caliber hand gun he used was at the station.

According to the sheriff, Carr was taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus where he later died.

Sheriff Kelly said Carr's death is under investigation.

Police said calling hours will be held Tuesday, Nov. 10 at Bishopville Church from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. The service will follow at 2 p.m.
