Does C-8 cause cancer in some Washington County water customers?

The scientific data is still being collected...but some residents were told tonight a federally-funded study could be completed by this summer.

The study is being conducted by the University of Pennsylvania...which two years ago, released preliminary findings saying the level of C-8 in residents of the Little Hocking Water District was well above that of the general population.

Members of the study group said Tuesday night they're still conducting tests...particularly regarding whether certain types of cancer were linked to the chemical used by DuPont Washington Works to make Teflon.

Also a part of the data the group is collecting...is the instance of C-8 in the breast milk of nursing mothers...and efforts to get a second set of blood samples from area residents.

A cautionary note...this research is NOT related to the study of some 70,000 residents of Wood, Washington and surrounding counties...known as the C-8 study group. That research is also still in progress.
