They serve the food and the coffee...they're of all ages...and walks of life. And every year, they take part in what is likely this area's largest Thanksgiving dinner, at the Parkersburg Salvation Army. Most of them have been doing it for several years.
"I've just started doing it in recent years," says volunteer Beverly Crosley. "This is my fourth or fifth time coming down to volunteer."
Some are taking part for the first time...like Belpre High School sophomore Maggie Mamo, who volunteered just Wednesday to help serve the Thanksgiving dinner.
"I found out yesterday from my cousin, and I'm really happy I came," Mamo said. "They help so many people, and just being part of this, is so rewarding."
But many volunteer on more than just this one day. They take part in a lot of the salvation army's other activities...including the organization's most visible activity during the Christmas season...the annual kettle drive.
"I've been with the Salvation Army for five years, and I love this job," says Bunny Broughton. "I wouldn't ask for any better. I'm here and I'm ready."
And speaking of the kettle campaign...it has been in full swing for the past two weeks...and runs through Christmas Eve in both Wood and Washington counties.
