The Ohio University board of trustees says Virginia Commonwealth University provost Roderick McDavis will be OU's new president.

The board will formally elect McDavis as the university's 20th president next month. He takes over July first for Robert Glidden, who announced his retirement in September.

McDavis graduated from Ohio University in 1970 with a degree in social sciences in secondary education.

He has a master's degree in student personnel administration from the University of Dayton and a doctorate in counselor education and higher education administration from the University of Toledo.

The Dayton native also has been a professor, associate dean and dean at the University of Florida, and a dean at the University of Arkansas.

McDavis will be the second alumnus to serve as president of Ohio University.
