Wood County School Superintendent Bill Niday was recognized by his peers Tuesday evening.
Representatives of Marshall University and West Virginia University appeared at the Wood County School Board meeting to present Niday with a plaque of recognition.
The state school superintendents association named Niday as "Superintendent of the Year".
Dr. Toni DeVore agrees with Niday's selection, saying she has known him since 1972 as an innovator.
"He was always forward thinking," explains Dr. Toni DeVore. "He was always looking at another way to improve teaching and learning for the kids, at Washington Junior High and the other places that he has served."
The Board of Education also began to put together questions for prospective candidates to respond to in their application.
Niday has announced his retirement effective at the end of the school year.
