The season may have started a little slow, but Wood County residents stepped in and gave in a big way.

Ssgt. Cliff Hecker, of the United States Marine Corps said, "Today (Friday) we have had an absolutely tremendous day. Probably the biggest one day single event we have ever had. And, we're not quite done. Still need a little bit more help, not quite done.

The annual Toys For Tots gift drive ended Friday with huge returns as two Humvee's were completely filled and taken away. Cash donations also turned up to be just as large.

For some the Toys For Tots drive has become a bit of a holiday tradition and a chance to teach kids about the gift of giving.

Robin Ambrozy and her family are annual Toys For Tots donors, says "they get pick the toys. They get to bring the the toys. They get to give the toys. And we stop by just about every year to this location and do it together."

The gift drive was started over 60 years ago. With millions of children across the country helped, the United States Marine Corps knows how great it feels to give Back to the community.

"The satisfaction that children all over the country are going to wake up Christmas morning, with a smile on their face," SSgt. Hecker said. "They don't know what its like to be without, and they shouldn't".
The Christmas season my be drawing to a close but the Marines want you to know there is a way you can donate all year round.

Ssgt. Hecker says "you can actually go to www.toysfortots.Org there is a way for you to donate 365 days a year. They have a full time staff that will do anything you wish to donate they'll be happy to take it."

And that helps make a happy holiday for a season that passes all too fast.
