Addiction specialists in Washington County say prescription pain pills are one of the most common drug addictions the have seen recently.

Law enforcement officials are seeing the effects as well.

They say that prescription drugs have taken the place of heroin as the drug of choice in the area.

Officials say they believe the heroin crack down several years ago.. sent drug addicts searching for a new fix.

Officials say some addicts are stealing pills from people with prescriptions while others are abusing the medications prescribed to them.

The Sheriff's Department says they are trying to increase their drug interdiction efforts which could mean hiring 3 more deputies to focus solely on drug related incidents.
