Norma Jean Arnold Gerken, 68, of 915 Whipple Run Road, Whipple, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. She was born May 30, 1939 in Cornerville, Reno area, to Francis Andrew and Elizabeth Ann Lang Arnold. She was a 1956 graduate of Marietta High School. She had worked as a teletype operator for the Marietta Times many years ago. She was a mother, homemaker, and dairy farmer, retiring from the Gerken Dairy Farm. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was involved in the YMCA and had volunteered at the Fearing Township VFD. Norma loved quilting, sewing, exercising, traveling, the sunshine and especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Dale Edward Gerken, they were married on November 14, 1959; six children, Joseph Gerken (Marie) of Whipple, Jennifer Gerken (Joel) of Whipple, Robert Gerken (Tina) of Williamsburg, VA, Kenneth Gerken (Jill) of Whipple, Terry Gerken (Lori) of Marietta and Kathie Griffith (Robert) of Girard; eleven grandchildren, Jody Briggs (Mike), Kelly Kent (Eric), Josh Gerken, Brandi Reed, Keelan Gerken, Amanda and Zachary Gerken, Michael and Tyler Gerken, Sophie and Isaac Griffith; three step grandsons, Justin, William and Thomas; three great grandchildren, Grace, Austin and Audrey Kent; a brother, Francis "Junior" Arnold (Carolyn) of Reno, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard and Donald Arnold. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Msgr. John Michael Campbell as celebrant. Visitation will be at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
