Okey Kress, 86 of Parkersburg, passed away October 29, 2009 at the Eagle Pointe Nursing Facility. He was born February 18, 1923 in Parkersburg, a son of the late William and Glenna (Stanley) Kress. Okey attended the Wood County Schools and was drafted in the U. S. Army in 1943. He was a Sargeant and served in Germany and France during World War II. Being wounded three times, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and two Oak Leaf Clusters. Okey married Pearl M. Kincaid November 7, 1945. They were married for almost 64 years. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and preached for eight years at the Kingstree Church of Christ in South Carolina. Surviving in addition to his wife is a son Michael L. Kress and his wife Sally of Washington, daughter Linda J. Berry and her husband Anderson Berry III of Columbia, TN, daughter Bonnie L. Kress of Goodlettsville, TN, five grandchildren: Nicholas M. Kress (Amanda) of Havelock, NC, Zachary L. Kress of Washington, Anderson Berry IV of Florida, Regina Berry of Nashville, TN and Daniel Betts of Goodlettsville, TN and a great grandson Michael Kress. In keeping with Mr. Kress’ wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. His body was donated to the WVU Human Gift Registry. Leavitt Funeral is assisting the family with arrangements.
