Irene Anderson went to be with her Lord, Sunday November 15th, 2009 at the age of 99. She had resided at Teays Valley Center, Teays Valley, WV for the past three months. Irene was born at Piney, Wetzel County, WV September 7, 1910, a daughter of the late Kelley and Sarah Miller Fluharty. She retired from Neale School in Vienna, WV where she had served faithfully in the kitchen and dining area for many years. She often talked about the children there and loved them all. Irene’s was a life of service to others. She loved people and many were drawn to her kind demeanor. In her youth she had learned to play the guitar and the ukulele. She sang with her father and her siblings. Later she sang with her husband and son at many local churches. Irene loved to quilt and made quilts for her children and grandchildren. She loved to cook for her family and made homemade bread for many years. Irene will be missed by her family and many others who were touched by her life. Irene is survived by four children, Sheldon “Andy” Anderson and wife Carol of Vienna, Shelva Jean Carras of New Castle, PA, Ardith Rupe of Scott Depot, and Frances Samples of St. Albans; seven grandchildren, James Rupe, Lee Ann Wooten, Beth Williams, Monica Carna, Greg Anderson, Michael Samples and Lorrie Marra; thirteen great grandchildren, Amanda Rupe, Christopher, Kristen and Kaylee Wooten, Nicholas and Caden Williams, Courtney and Kaleigh Samples, David Kirby, Skylar Carna, Abigail, Gregory and Shelby Anderson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty seven years, Lawrence “Billie” Anderson; one grandson, David Kondrat; six sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverend Cal Valet officiating. Services will conclude with interment in the Sunset Memory Gardens.
