Calvin L. Mayle, age 89, of Zanesville, Ohio, formerly of Belpre, Ohio, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at the Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville after a long illness; his first stroke was on March 15, 2000. He was born November 10, 1920, at Fleming, Ohio, to the late Richard and Mabel Sellers Mayle. Mr. Mayle attended Vincent High School. He worked for farmers at Fleming and worked at Republic Steel in Canton, Ohio. He retired from Guthrie-Morris-Campbell Company in Parkersburg. He was part owner of Mayle-Starkey Carpet of Belpre. Calvin was a member of the Barnett Ridge Wesleyan Church and a cemetery trustee; he was an avid outdoorsman, an avid fisherman and hunter, and a member of the Ohio Gun Collectors, buying, selling, and trading guns was his hobby and he especially liked Winchester Guns. In 1955, Calvin was married to Ruth Barnett who lives in Zanesville. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Gregory, Cynthia, Lawrence, and Melissa Mayle, George Scott, Gail Roosevelt, Carol Guinn, Steve Hicks, Howard Hicks, and Pamela Osgood; an aunt Majil Jenkins and a sister in-law, Rachel Lyons of Cincinnati. He was preceded in death by his brother Ervin Mayle and sisters, Gwendolyn Hicks and Ima Scott. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, November 21, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Boulevard, Belpre, Ohio, with Reverend Christopher Battle officiating. Burial will follow at the Barnett Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
