Jeffrey Lee Heldman, 66, of Vienna, passed away on February 5, 2010 at his residence following a short illness. He was born May 28, 1943 at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Washington County, Ohio to the late Jeanne (Heldman) Cumblidge and Harold Howard Heldman and was the step son of the late Mr. James Cumblidge. He was a 1962 graduate of Williamstown High School and attended Marietta College and WVU at Parkersburg. He served in the US Air Force from 1962 to 1966 serving in New Hampshire and England. He retired from River Gas Company Division of Consolidated Natural Gas Company and retired after 28 years in 1998. He was member of the American Legion Post #64 of Marietta, Ohio since 1966. He was also a member of the Family Fitness center since 1990 and had been associated with Vienna Recreation for 39 years and was a board member serving as president of Vienna Recreation Association. After retirement, Jeff enjoyed playing racquetball with close friends, participating with young people in VRIA sports, spending time with his wife Jan. Jeff had been an avid sports fan all his life. He coached semi pro football for several years and volunteered his time coaching, umpiring and working on the fields at Jackson Park. He was the founder of the Ohio River Pony and Colt baseball leagues. One of Jeff's favorite pastimes was watching WVU and Ohio State and the Big Red football games. Jeff is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years Jan Waggoner Heldman of Vienna, his son James and wife Amy of Vienna, two sisters Becky Owings of Milton, FL and Debby Amenhauser and husband Jack of Cape May Court House, New Jersey, two nephews Steven and Scott Strachan of Milton, FL and a niece Kimberly Hoke of Jefferson City, Missouri. The funeral service will be at 11 am Tuesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Rev. William Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 on Monday and prior to the service on Tuesday. Jeff's family request memorials be made to the Vienna Recreation and Improvement Association.
