Washington County resident Clyde King filed a report with the Sheriff's Department in March, saying he was missing a .22 caliber handgun and ammunition.
Authorities say Wednesday night, King's stepson, Bradley Divel, was arrested after he confessed to stealing the gun from his King's home.
News of a gun on school grounds circulated fast, but authorities say Bradley Divel had no intention of using the gun on school grounds. In fact, he didn't even show it to anyone.
"As far as we know, the weapon was never visibly shown off in the school," says Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks. "It was kept concealed while it was there. It went from one bag into another bag, but the transfer actually occur in one of the classrooms."
Sheriff Mincks says Divel gave the gun to a classmate, Angelo Knox.
Mincks says Knox wanted to make money to buy a pair of jeans, so he sold the gun to 20-year old Wesley Burrows, who has a history with stolen property.
"He was, I think, a person who they knew could handle the stolen property. He apparently had dealt with [stolen property] in the past because he had been convicted and was on parole for receiving a stolen firearm," says Sheriff Mincks.
Thursday, all three suspects had a video arraignment in Judge Janet Dyar Welch's courtroom. Divel, Knox and Burrows are all facing felony charges.
Judge Welch also spelled out instructions on where the accused are prevented from going.
"You are also prohibited from entering the grounds of any Warren Local school. That means Warren High School, Little Warren, that means Cutler, Bartlett, any of those schools, you have no authority, at this time, to enter onto those properties at all," said Judge Dyar Welch.
On top of the charge of possessing a weapon on school grounds, Divel also is charged with theft. Knox is charged with receiving stolen property. Burrows is charged with receiving stolen property.
Burrows is free on a PR bond under the condition he stays off school property.
Both Divel and Knox are being held until they can post bond.
