He took the Ohio Valley Universitgy baseball program to the next level. But now its time for coach Chad Porter to move on.
Porter has resigned his position with the Fighting Scots, effective June 30th.
He's leaving to take over the head coaching job with Texas A&M International, an NCAA Division 2 school in Laredo Texas.
Porter moves on after a 5 year run with the Fighting Scots. In that time his team won 98 games.
The highlight of his career was the 2006 season. His Fighting Scots won their first ever West Virginia Conference baseball tournament and earned a berth in the NCAA Division 2 regionals.
Porter's efforts earned him West Virginia Conference coach of the year that season.
He interviewed for the A&M International job last week and decided to accept the postion
He's a 29 year old Byesville Ohio native, and he is thankful to OVU athletic director Ron Pavin and the school's administation for the opportunity he had with Fightng Scots.
But he feels the new job with Texas A&M International is a right fit for porter and his family.
OVU athletic director Ron Pavin says a national search will be helped to find a new head coach for the Scots.
In the meantme, Bob Crawford will be interim coach until a replacement is on board.
