(AP) -- Marshall football player Micah Carter has transferred to NCAA Division II Concord University.

Carter's high school coach, Woodrow Wilson's John Lilly, confirmed the move. Lilly says he's surprised because he'd heard the Marshall coaches were excited about Carter.

The true freshman lineman arrived at Marshall in January. Marshall coach Mark Snyder moved him from center on offense to nose guard on defense during spring practice.

According to NCAA rules, Carter will be eligible to play for the Mountain Lions this season because he transferred from Division I into a lower division.

Carter is the third Marshall player to leave this summer. Sophomore defensive tackle Shane Moore went to Norfolk State and redshirt freshman offensive guard Sergio Glenn transferred to North Carolina A&T.
