The man who helped make Schaly Stadium into one of the top baseball facilities in NCAA Division IIII baseball has died.

Paul Erb passed away at his home on monday he was 80 years old.

Erb groomed the basebaths and mancured the infield and outfield grass of the then Pioneer Park from 1982 until his retirement in 1999.

His skill and diligence made Pioneer Park a showcase for the NCAA Division III World Series in the late 1970's and early '80's.

Erb also played a key role in the Pioneer Park project that saw the construction of a press box, offices, concession stands, and the installation of lights.

Erb's accomplishments were recognized with the presentation of Marietta College's Distinguished Service Award.

Funeral services are set for Thursday morning at Hadley Funeral Home in Marietta.
