Area Athletes are off to a great start in day one of the WV State High School Track and Field Championships.

Williamstown and Wheeling Central are tied for the top spot in the boys Class A State Track and Field Meet in Charleston. Each time has compled 36 points.

Williamstown High School's Matt Kiger finished up an outstanding high school career by winning a pair of individual champiionshps at the West Virginia High School Track and Field Meet in Charleston.

He begin the Meet by dominating the boys Class A shot put competition with a heave of 52 feet and 2 and a quarter inches. That effort was 6 feet better than the second place finisher.

Hayden Ullman of St. Marys finished fourth in the competition, and Williamstown's Jakeb Elliott was fifth.

Then in his second event of the day, Kiger won the boys Class A discus throw. He sailed the discus 144 feet and 7 inches to lead a Yellowjacket sweep in the event. His teammate Jakeb Elliott finished second with a toss of 140 feet and 7 inches.

St. Marys is the frontrunner in the Class A girls competition, while Williamstown is third

The Devil girls also had alot to celebrate this afternoon.
The St. Marys team of Beverly Knight, Micalyn Miller, Ali Johnson, and Jennifer McFarland won the 3200 meter relay. They're winning time came to 9 minutes and 53.72 seconds. Later Knight also own the crown in the individuall 3200 meter race

The defending Class A champion Williamstown girls also garnered a first place finish this afternoon. The Yellowjackets won the Shuttle Hurdle Relay. Madison Postlewaite, Kayla Semon, Kylie Hammer, and Keeper Gray combined on a winning time of 1:08.93. St. Mary finished third in the event.

Ravenswood and Ritchie Couny are tied for the top spot in Class AA

Ravenswood won the 3200 Meter relay. Red Devil runners Nathan Rees, Matt Knowlton, Derek Murray, William Cole combined for a winning time of 8:19.92

Cody Masters of Ritchie County is the boys Class AA pole vault champion. He had a winning effort of 13 feet. His teammate Mark Britton won the shot put
