Flights from Parkersburg to the Washington, D.C. area will continue for the next 2 years.

The federal government has re-selected Colgan Air to provide service out of the Mid-Ohio Valley regional airport.

The airport authority had recommended that decision to the Department of Transportation.

The new contract will be good through July of 2010.

Service will be 12 to 18 weekly round trip flights from Parkersburg to Washington Dulles airport.

Colgan will be paid more than $2 million a year for its service.

In a time of economic chaos and rapidly escalating costs of airline travel in terms of fuel, the Mid-Ohio Valley is fortunate to have air service. Many small areas have lost theirs because of the cost of doing business. It is time for the community to support the local airline service.

12 to 18 flights a week isn't much, but at least we still have air service.
