Parkersburg, WV (AP) -- They may not be as cute and cuddly as puppies and kittens, but snakes and other cold-blooded critters need love too.
That's the philosophy behind Scaled Skins Inc., a reptile and amphibian refuge that opened in Parkersburg three weeks ago.
The refuge's operators, Matthew Hahn and Michael Kerns, are working with the Humane Society of Parkersburg. The humane society can't accept reptiles and amphibians at its shelter, and as a result, officials often must euthanize these animals.
Scaled Skins also will take other animals, depending on the circumstances.
Adoption fees help cover the cost of maintaining and feeding the animals.
Hahn says he and Kerns hope to receive state and federal grants. The refuge also accepts donations.
Scaled Skins is located at 1327 Broadway Ave next to the Broadway Barber Shop. Its phone number is 485-4040.
