Whether it was a strike or a gutter ball Friday afternoon, 300 athletes were giving it their all bowling at Pike Street Lanes in Parkersburg for the fall games of the Special Olympics.

All weekend long 500 athletes from all across the state of West Virginia will be competing in volleyball, bowling, and flag football.

Shelia Pusley, is a parent of two twin girls that are involved with the Special Olympics and she wants to encourage other parents of special needs children to participate with the program.

"It gives them confidence and self esteem, " said Pusley.

"It's really rewarding to see how they enjoy the sport. That's the reason I have volunteered from year to year, " said Bob Bargeloh a volunteer with the Special Olympics.

The opening ceremonies will be held Friday evening at 7:30. The event wraps up Sunday afternoon.
