West Virginia's U.S. senators are thinking of the veterans coming home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

With the economy improving, Senators Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin are behind an effort to persuade businesses to consider veterans of the two wars in their hiring practices.

They're part of a bi-partisan group of lawmakers who introduced that effort Tuesday in the senate.

"We want everyone to be aware...and we're going to have signs on our offices...that say, 'I Hire Veterans'," said Sen. Manchin, as he held up a promotional sign. "And we hope it spreads through public, government and private. And we want people to be aware of that."

Sen. Manchin says that, while veterans bring unique work skills from their experience overseas, unemployment among veterans remains above the national average.
