Suspect Arrested in Alleged Burning Incident

A suspect is under arrest facing child neglect charges after allegedly burning his girlfriend's child in a bathtub.
Wood County Sheriff Detectives arrested 22-year old Ryan Matthew Smith, after receiving a call about the three year old victim who suffered second degree burns.
Detective Shawn Graham says they arrested Smith after he admitted turning hot water on in the bathtub while the child was bathing.
Graham says, the suspect didn't say why he did it, but he did indicated that the child was taking too long so he turned the hot water on to make her want to get out of the bath.
Smith is facing child neglect resulting in injury charges, with further charges are pending.
Detective Graham says the mother was not home at the time of the incident, and she is not facing any charges at this time.
The child was sent to a Columbus hospital for treatment.
