Cincinnati (AP) -- A few schools in southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky are cutting classes short to help students beat the heat.

At least three schools that lack air conditioning are scheduling mid-day dismissals on Wednesday to cope with temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s.

Dozens of schools did the same thing during a late August heat wave last year.

The schools closing early do not include the Cincinnati Public Schools, which canceled classes twice last year because of heat.

School officials say they're carefully monitoring temperatures and trying to keep students hydrated.

Air pollution alerts have been issued throughout Ohio because of high temperatures and low winds that are the perfect conditions for smog.
