It's a day of firsts for 15-year old Cherrell, from the bright light of our TV camera, to those above the salon chair. She's never been to a place like this before.
But once she was caped, buttoned and pumped, she had no trouble lying back and just going with the flow. That seems to be the nature of her personality ...
"Actually I think she would fit in just about anywhere. She's really easy going and just easy to get along with," Social Worker Peggy Kincaid says.
Cherrelle may not say a whole lot, but she exudes a quiet excitement and a genuine attitude that will blow you away. She hopes one day to be a bona-fide artist and loves to create animals on paper that she would like to have at home.
"Dog, ferret, snake and a cat," she says with a smile.
But no bright lights big city for this gal. Her place is in West Virginia.
"It's my favorite place, I was born here, and I want to stay here."
She just wants, in her words, a good home. Parents that would fix her tuna sandwiches, take her to an amusement park and just play with her. Throw in a sister or two and Cherrelle will have the style of family she's always wanted.
After a lot of primping and perfecting, Cherrelle's day of firsts has come to an end.
What do you think of it, I ask.
"I look very good," she says with another smile.
But even as she leaves the bright lights behind she will hold onto an even brighter hope, that the right family will come along and offer her many more firsts with them.
