Crews were called to the scene of a structure fire in Marietta Sunday afternoon.

It happened in the 600 block of Front Street. The house belongs to Marietta Mayor Josh Schlicher who rents it out.

Firefighters got the call around 1:30 p.m. and say they responded immediately. They were able to put the fire out in 10 to 15 minutes.

Neighbors say several people were out in the streets calling for help, even directing firefighters to the scene.

Officials say most of the damage is on the first floor and in the attic.

“They were able to get an initial knockdown. It took an extended period of time to get complete control of the fire simply because it got into the walls, ran to the attic. We had to do an extensive operation to go ahead and make sure all the fire was out in all parts of the building,” said Marietta Fire Chief C.W. Durham.

The Ohio State Fire Marshall’s office is investigating the cause of the fire. They’re also checking to see if the structure is salvageable.
