Officials: Case of COVID-19 confirmed at Madison Elementary School

Another case of coronavirus is confirmed in the Wood County School System.

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - School officials and the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department confirm that a positive case of COVID-19 is reported at Madison Elementary School.

In a release on Friday, school officials say that they’re working closely with the health department to identify any person who may have had close contact with the individual that tested positive. Anyone that needs to be quarantined, based on the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control, will be contacted by the health department.

It is unknown at this time if this positive individual is school staff member or student.

“Wood County Schools will continue to take appropriate actions, working in collaboration with the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, to protect the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff”, the release stated.

This is one of several cases of coronavirus reported in the Wood County School System since the start of the new school year. Other schools with reported cases include Parkersburg South High School, Williamstown Elementary School, Williamstown High and Middle School, Martin Elementary School, Mineral Wells Elementary and Blennerhassett Elementary.
