POMERY, Ohio (WTAP) - The Meigs County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual awards gala virtually this year, on Thursday, November 19 at 7 P.M. The event will be streamed via Facebook Live.

The Chamber gives awards in seven categories. Two, Outstanding Citizen and Outstanding Public Servant, are nominated by members of the community. The remaining awards are nominated by the Chamber and include Entrepreneur of the Year, Economic Impact, Best First Impression, Lifetime Business Achievement, and Community Pillar.

According to Shelly Combs, executive director of the Chamber, the awards have a special significance this year given the challenges many businesses have faced due to COVID-19. At the same time, Combs said many Meigs County businesses have done quite well this year.

“We had even thought about doing a specific award for a business that has taken this challenge and used it as an opportunity to grow their business,” Combs said. “We have a lot of businesses, really, in our community that have actually done quite well this year. I think it’s different when you’re in a rural community like we are. Not so say that businesses haven’t suffered because some definitely have. But we have some that have done very well this year. We are a close-knit community and our community is great about supporting our local businesses” she added.

Those interested in streaming the gala can do so by visiting the Chamber’s Facebook page at 7 P.M. on November 19.
