Little boy gets ultimate Christmas surprise
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - While teddy bears may be one of the most traditional toys, there’s nothing traditional about this Christmas story.
Two years ago, Nancy Miller’s cousin’s home burned down in a fire along with every keepsake inside of it. One of the biggest losses was a teddy bear.
Miller said, “That was one of the most devastating parts of them losing everything in that fire because he was only five or six, just turning six when that happened and he couldn’t sleep for a long time because he didn’t have his bear. He took that bear everywhere with him.”
But one fateful day, while at Goodwill with her family, Nancy spotted something familiar. a tie dye bear poked out between the other toys.
When Miller showed it to her cousin, she said it was a match down to the accessories.
“She said it looks exactly like the bear, even down to the ribbon because it had a little pink ribbon around the neck of the bear.”
Miller bought it, wrapped it up, and waited for Christmas. When Avery opened it, it was quite the hit.
“While we were waiting on everybody to open everything else, he kept going around to everybody talking about it and when he was talking to myself and my husband he’s like so Santa saved the bear out of the fire?”
Miller said it was the most important gift she gave in 2020.
