Obituary: Herman W. (“June”) Buskirk Jr.
Herman W. (“June”) Buskirk Jr., born June 15, 1930 in Parkersburg, WV, only child to the late Herman and Madaline Buskirk, died peacefully at home among family on April 6, 2021. He graduated Parkersburg High School in 1948 and shortly after began a 6-years apprenticeship towards his becoming a Journeyman Printer at the Parkersburg News and Sentinel. He loved his work and via several promotions, became Production Manager. He subsequently retired in July 1995 after serving 47 years. On July 24, 1948 “June” married JoAnn Nelson, “the love of his life” and they have remained married 72 years. They have 2 children, Terri Crockett (David), James Kevin (Susan, deceased 2007; Kristy 2018). “June” most of all loved and frequently boasted of his family, especially his grandchildren Kaitlin Crockett (Kiel Jones), James Davis Buskirk, Natalie Swender (Kaleb), Laura Buskirk (Nick Virgilio), Jack Cunningham and Alison Cunningham.
After retirement “June” & JoAnn moved to St. Petersburg, FL and found a church home at Northside Baptist Church. They became part of the church’s Global Mission Ministry, leading to many mission trips, including to Odessa, Ukraine to help build a Northside’s sister church, Russia, Equador, Dominican Republic, Spain, Morocco and India. He loved teaching and spreading God’s Word abroad. Though a printer by trade, his foremost passion was teaching about Jesus, who he loved and faithfully continually served. “June” will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. Celebration of “June’s” life will be held Friday, April 9, 2021 at 11 am in the East Hall, Northside Baptist Church.
