PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Blennerhassett Middle School showcased its technology programs Thursday with tours of its three new labs.

The school has drastically increased its technology and class offerings in recent years with the addition of an Entrepreneurship Lab, a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) Lab and a Broadcasting Lab.

The additions were made possible through numerous grants and the support of the Blennerhassett Middle School PTA and Local School Improvement Council (LSIC).

This year the school opened The Bobcat Biz as part of its Entrepreneurship Lab, with students creating and selling school-logo items, such as t-shirts, keychains and water bottles.

The Broadcast Lab includes a green screen area which allows students to produce videos and live feeds with a variety of backgrounds and effects.

The STEAM Lab allows students to learn about electronics, programming, robotics, engineering and creative problem solving.

These programs will continue to be expanded, with the Entrepreneurship Lab being offered this fall as an elective for all grades at the middle school. The student-driven technology programs build on STEAM programs offered at Blennerhassett Elementary School and feed into advanced classes at Parkersburg South High School.
