PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The Wood County Historical and Preservation Society (WCHPS) and the Parkersburg and Wood County Public Library will be hosting a History Scavenger Hunt at the Phelps-Tavenner House, an historic home in Parkersburg.

The event is envisioned as a fun way for participants to learn about the pioneers of Wood County and other local history. Clues will be related to historical information that participants can learn about at the house.

It will take place on April 28, May 1, May 5, and May 8 from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. Participants can arrive at anytime between those hours, as there will not be scheduled start times. Reservations are not necessary.

Last year, the library’s scavenger hunt was held at Henderson Hall and it went very well, so the library decided to partner with WCHPS to hold another one this year, said Jim Miracle, manager of the history and theology department at the main branch of the Wood County Public Library.

On May 8, there will also be a Garden Heritage Day celebration, which will include a librarian reading garden-related stories to children. There will be “garden art treasures” for sale, and sales will benefit WCHPS.

Those who would like additional information are asked to call (304) 489-1629 or (304) 420-4587.
