Starbucks employee launches supply drive for Humane Society
MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - Manny Doty, a shift supervisor at the Starbucks location in Marietta, has spearheaded an effort to gather pet supplies for the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley.
The drive is part of a company-wide initiative called the Month of Good, held in April. Doty was already a supporter of the Humane Society and regularly donated money to the shelter. So when she found out her location was participating in the initiative, she pitched the supply drive idea.
“I’m a really big animal person….And 2020 was a little bit of a struggle, it was a tough year. So when I’d get tips, I’d take about $20 out and donate it to the Humane Society because I wanted to see that good in the world,” Doty said.”It’s how I handled the pandemic depression,” she added.
The Humane Society is most in need of dog and cat treats, toys, beds, throw blankets, and kitten milk replacement, since springtime typically sees an increase in stray cats having kittens, Doty said.
Supplies can be dropped off at the Marietta Starbucks location anytime during business hours before the end of the month, though Doty said the drive may be extended for an extra week.
