Chamber of Commerce offering Women in Leadership scholarship to WVUP students
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The Chamber of Commerce of the Mid-Ohio Valley is offering a Women in Leadership scholarship to WVU-Parkersburg (WVUP) students for the 2021-22 collegiate year. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a woman who currently attends the school or will start attending in 2021.
The scholarship has been introduced for the first time this year and is offered in conjunction with the Chamber’s Women in Leadership conference series. For 2020 and 2021, the conference was moved online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. One of the sponsorship levels for this year’s online series included a scholarship for a female student at WVUP.
“It’s something that we wanted to include this year because of everything that’s going on. And hopefully it’s something we’ll be able to continue to include in our Women in Leadership programming,” said Nicole Guinn, membership and events specialist at the Chamber.
The Women in Leadership conference aims to support female leaders in the local business community, and Guinn said the scholarship was created with the intention of furthering those goals, as well.
“It’s promoting that female leader within a business or a nonprofit in our community. We’re definitely all about supporting that avenue,” Guinn said.
The scholarship application can be downloaded online here. It must be mailed to the Chamber and must be received by the Chamber by May 3 at 3 P.M.
